  • Question: Do you have any plans to do any more reality programmes? And my husband wants to know when you are coming to England permanently? Cindy

Fletch’s Answer: I don’t have any plans for another reality show at this stage - maybe the duet show on BBC one day! I would dearly love to live in the UK one day but that will only be after Neighbours finishes for me.

  • Question: How long is your Neighbours contract? Any plans to leave soon? Dave, London

Fletch’s Answer: I am contracted to Neighbours until September 2008 so I’ll be around for a while.

  • Question: Did you originally play another character on Neighbours? I am certain that I saw an episode years ago in which you played a different character. Kathleen

Fletch’s Answer: I did play another character called Greg Cooper for three weeks back in 1989! I was a mechanic and did most of my scenes with a very young Kylie!

  • Question: I was wondering if there are any plans for the band to play Glastonbury this year? I would love to see them live and I think they would be well suited to the festivals atmosphere. Craig

Fletch’s Answer: Glastonbury is a dream for the future. At the moment I can only get time off Neighbours to do a tour in November/December 2007

  • Question: Will your band be touring around Brisbane anytime soon? Robin

Fletch’s Answer: My Neighbours schedule keeps me tied to Melbourne so I rarely have the opportunity of playing anywhere else in Australia. If you stay tuned to the alanfletcher.net site there will be more Waiting Room music available very soon.

  • Question: I am aware that you are a Liverpool Football Fan and that the charity you raised money for on Soapstar Superstar was the Linda McCartney Centre Charity in Liverpool. Have you any connection to Liverpool, as it always seems to be a part of your life? Michael,Northumberland

Fletch’s Answer: I have relatives who live in the Wirral which is close to Liverpool. I suppose my interest in the city goes back to my youth when so much great music was coming out of Merseyside. I began taking an interest in Liverpool FC when Michael Owen was there and Harry Kewell’s presence is a big draw too.I was thrilled to be able to assist the Linda McCartney Centre as they are a unique and desperately needed part of North West England’s medical infrastructure.

  • Question:What did it feel like recording Tears In Heaven for the Soapstar Superstar album? I have to say your voice is absolutely incredible on the song. Hayley

Fletch’s Answer: That song is very emotionally challenging to interpret because of the intense subject matter. My son is around the same age as the boy that Eric Clapton lost, which motivated the song in the first place. It was an honour to be invited to perform the song.

  • Question: I met you back in 2006 which was a great night and you are/were on my list of people I would like to meet. So, my question is, if you could meet anyone past or present Who would it be? Dan, Liverpool

Fletch’s Answer: I would like to meet John Lennon and Jim Morrison from the Doors.

  • Question: Out of all the songs you sang in Soapstar Superstar, what’s your favourite song to sing and why? Hayley

Fletch’s Answer: My favourite song to sing was Tears in Heaven because it is about the death of Eric Clapton’s son and my boy is just nine. I found it very hard to sing it without tearing up.

  • Question: Personally I would have loved to see you do more up-tempo songs than just "Can’t Take My Eyes off You" (on Soapstar Superstar) which is why I am going to try and see you on your band’s next tour. I was also pleasantly surprised to see you were a Liverpool fan after visiting the message boards on your site. I am a huge Liverpool fan, and would love to know who your favourite player is. Sally

Fletch's Answer: I was surprised that only ballads seemed to get through the vote but that’s what people wanted it seemed.Hopefully the band will be touring near you late this year and we can say hello. My favourite Liverpool player is Steven Gerrard, of course, but I am a big Harry Kewell fan as well. He has been brilliant for the Socceroos and I hope to see him back for the Reds very soon.

  • Question: Will you be appearing at other venues as well as university’s in this year’s tour as we would love to come? You met and made loads of friends while on the show are you planning on keeping in touch with them? Kate, Leicestershire

Fletch’s Answer: As soon as I know anything about the next tour you will know through the newsletter. My UK friends are very important to me and I am sure we will keep in touch on the email.

  • Question: Can’t wait to hear the dates for your tour this year...you can be guaranteed I'll be there. How can we buy your album over here in the UK? Lisa

Fletch’s Answer: You can buy the album through the Waiting Room website. Delivery is from the UK and is very quick. If you don’t have the facility to buy over the web please email fanzone@alanfletcher.net for other options.

  • Question: Over the years Karl and Susan have been serial skinny-dippers and you were involved in the Full Monty at Lou’s Place, not to mention the infamous Audrey-as-modesty-saver incident with Lori, which aired again on UK Gold recently. Given the show’s time-slot nothing is explicit, of course, but I wondered whether the directors insisted on you and Jackie getting your kit off in the interests of artistic realism or whether you were allowed to retain at least a modicum of privacy? Really enjoyed Soapstar Superstar but am curious as to why everyone who was splashing their cash to keep you in kept on picking the wrong songs! Newtfish

Fletch’s Answer: I can assure you that modesty has been preserved on every occasion! Not sure why everyone chose ballads over rock songs on Soapstar. Guess that was the vibe of the show.

  • Question:You chose to ’save’ Mark Furze in Soapstar Superstar - did you know Mark before Soapstar Superstar or did you choose him because he was a fellow Australian? You were both great! Neighbours and Home & Away Fan - Scotland

Fletch’s Answer: I chose to save Mark because I thought he was the best overall potential Superstar/popstar and I was worried he wouldn't get as many votes from the public who support ITV shows so strongly. In the end he did brilliantly.

  • Question: Hi, you might not remember me but you met me on the day of the soapstar superstar final. My name is Jennifer and you said it was the same as your wife. I overheard you telling someone that you will be touring later this year, and was wondering if you have any further details and where I can find information nearer the time?

Fletch's Answer: I remember you! We hope to tour again in Nov/Dec 2007. If you subscribe to the newsletter then you will get info first!

  • Question: Do you get nervous when you perform? Faye Johnson

Fletch’s Answer: I always get a little nervous when I perform, mainly because I am worried about forgetting the lyrics to my songs!

  • Question: Is there a way that I can watch the Aussie episodes of Neighbours over here in Ireland or do I have to stay behind Aussie pace and watch the English episodes? Andrew

Fletch’s Answer: Don’t know of any way you can watch Australian episodes over in Ireland. I have heard that they find their way onto the web but not sure where. Try visiting fan sites like Neighboursfans.com and asking on the message board.

  • Question: Just wanted to ask you how you dealt with the opinions of the judges on the Superstar panel. Each night you received your critisisms graciously whether constructive or not. Constructive comments are always useful and great when applied but I found myself getting frustrated at the panel simply because some of their comments were just irritating. Is it just me? Susan

Fletch’s Answer: I had no problem with the judges comments. They were just doing their job and I think they were very kind really.

  • Question: When I saw your wife in the audience last night, she reminded me of Jackie Trent singer & wife of Tony Hatch. Given their connecton with Neighbours just wondered if any relation? Jeanette

Fletch’s Answer: No, Jennifer is no relation to Jackie. Wish she was, Tony and Jackie have earnt a fortune from royalties for the Neighbours Theme tune!
