Actor drops in to launch appeal
By Declan Harte
AN APPEAL to help make Christmas brighter for homeless people
in the north-east was launched in Aberdeen yesterday by actor
Alan Fletcher.
The star, best known for playing Dr Karl Kennedy in TV soap
Neighbours, is in the city to perform in the pantomime Peter
Pan at HM Theatre.
Homeless charity Cyrenians, which is celebrating its 40th
anniversary, is collecting money to buy Christmas dinner and
gifts for people spending the festive period on the streets.
Mr Fletcher said he realises how lucky he has been in his life
and was therefore keen to give something back by launching the
campaign at the charity centre on Summer Street.
Aberdeen Cyrenians chief executive Paul Hannan said: “We
help thousands of people every year so donations are important,
but we are always really happy with the level of response that
we get to our Christmas appeal.”
People can take cash donations and Christmas cards with goodwill
messages to the centre, where a special meal will be held on
Christmas Day.
